"affection of the lung"; with a vertical stroke in
the centre it means as Ι said "probable"; Ρ means
"flux," "rigor"; Φ "phrenitis" or "consumption";
Σ "convulsion" or "morbid condition of oesophagus
or mouth"; Τ "delivery"; Υ "recovery of health"
or "hypochondrium"; Χ "bile" or "bilious"; Ψ
"chill"; Ω "crudity."

As might have been expected, there is considerable
doubt as to the right readings of these characters.
Thus in V the characters at the end of Case I
(first series) are :--

of Galen's ??. Ilberg emends to :--

Galen reads :--
