Notes on the Formation of Adjectives of the Consonant Declension
259. The feminine of Adjectives of the Consonant Declension,
when it differs from the masculine, follows the
A-Declension. Its nominative singular ends in α (short).
261. The feminine of these adjectives is declined like θάλαττα (62).
262. The nominative singular masculine either ends in ς, before
which ντ is dropped and the preceding vowel lengthened (ε to ει and α
to ᾱ), or rejects ς, like γέρων (744). For the vocative singular masculine
of χαρίεις and ἑκών, see 253.
263. In the dative plural masculine and neuter of χαρίεις, ε is not
lengthened, although ντ is dropped. πᾶς lacks the vocative singular and
the dual. The forms πάντων and πᾶσι are irregular in accent (cf. 244).
GRAMMATICAL NOTES
813. When an adjective either precedes the article, or follows the
noun without taking an article, it is always a predicate adjective. Thus,
μῑκραὶ αἱ οἰκίαι ἦσαν, or αἱ οἰκίαι μῑκραὶ ἦσαν, the houses were small.
264. VOCABULARY.
